The iconic ivory pleated dress that the actress Marilyn Monroe wore at the movie "The Seven Year Itch" (1955) for the scene at the subway, created by the american costume designer William Travilla, was sold for US$4,6 million at the auction at Calabasas, California.
Travilla is best-known for dressing the sex-bomb in eight of her films, not only making her look gorgeous, but glamorous. Once she wrote to him : "Billy Dear, please dress me forever. I love you, Marilyn".
Other dresses were also sold, such as the red sequins dress from the movie "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1955) and "River no Return" (1954), for the amount of US$1,2 million and US$510.000, respectively.

The dresses belonged to the private collection of the actress Debbie Reynolds, famous actress from "Singing in the Rain", and the auction house "Profiles in History",was in charged of this sale. She started collecting emblematic pieces from classic movies, and soon it became sort of an obsession for her. Her dream has been to gather and take care of the history of the film industry of Hollywood.
